About the Band     Upcoming Appearances    Order CDs

Jazz In The Morning is a professional Christian instrumental ensemble, which seeks to serve the Christian community with its ministry or worship and outreach. Members of the group, David Klingensmith, Danny Wilson and Beverly Olmstead, have felt God's call to share their "joyful sound."

The group was organized in 1993 by Beverly Olmstead to provide praise and worship music for Sunday worship services at a large Houston area church. In July, 2001 the group won the international Instrumental Competition at the Gospel Music Association's annual conference in Estes Park, Colorado.Three of their CDs have been recommended for Grammy nominations in several different categories.

It became apparent that there was a need in the community for a Christian ensemble. For this reason in May, 2002, Jazz In The Morning became an independent group seeking to serve the greater church in the Houston area. They are recently incorporated as a non-profit organization and have entered into a covenant relationship with Presbytery of New Covenant.

Jazz In The Morning has played at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, at the Hyatt Regency for the National Association of Church Educators, the 2004 Star of Hope Gala, at various Presbyterian denomination functions, church retreats, Easter picnics, stewardship events and other church-related social functions. A few of the performance venues include First United Methodist Church, Houston; First Presbyterian Church, Lake Charles, LA; West University United Methodist Church, Houston; First United Methodist Church, Lufkin; Tallowood Baptist Church, Houston; Westminster United Methodist Church, Houston; Christ Church United Methodist, The Woodlands; Atascocita Presbyterian Church, Houston, St. John's Presbyterian Church, Houston and the September, 2005 Jazz Service at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Houston. The group has also given concerts around town for churches of all denominations.

The band's style is quite varied: Dixieland, funk rock, pop rock and various jazz styles. The arrangements are custom written specifically for this group by several acclaimed writers in the area.
